When did China's sculpture sprout up in various forms?

The original sculpture can be counted from the stone artifacts and pottery of primitive society, which is the sprout of Chinese sculpture. Various pottery models laid the foundation for the multi-directional development of Chinese sculpture. With the end of the Paleolithic Age, the Neolithic Yellow River Basin and Northeast China have emerged in an independent sense of sculpture. Of course, it has gone through a rather long transitional period.

In the long process described above, the ancestors of mankind have evolved from simple stone making to polishing and classifying stone tools. At the same time, the spiritual and cultural level of decorations with the improvement of thinking ability and aesthetic awareness and more beautiful. The earliest sculpture sprouts can be counted as primitive stone tools, a large number of fine stone tools with the nature of sculpture.

Pottery appeared in the late Neolithic period. They have rich shapes and various patterns. They are not only the daily necessities of life, but also the works of art that can be appreciated. The pottery at that time was not deviated from the practical purpose, but its influence on the later bronzes and hieroglyphs was obvious.

The first form of Chinese primitive sculpture is pottery. It has practical value. In terms of technical means, it can be roughly divided into three types:

1. Take animal shape as utensils, such as the pottery Eagle tripod unearthed from Yangshao cultural site, 36 cm high, with Eagle body as tripod, with two feet as three fulcrums, full-bodied utensils, for this kind of sculpture and utensils perfect combination of representative works.

2. The sculpture of decorative parts, some in the form of accessories, such as knobs, handles, etc., and some in the form of surface relief. Themes include animals, plants and characters. The pottery vase human head unearthed in Dadiwan, Gansu Province, can be called the beginning of early Chinese figure sculpture. The work ingeniously sculpts the mouth of the pottery vase into a person's head, making delicate and vivid images.

3. Small animals or figures, this small sculpture is ancient craftsmen do not borrow any tools and hand-made, compact, humane. The pottery pig * unearthed from the Hemudu Site cultural site in Zhejiang is probably the oldest sculpture in Jiangnan area in China, dating back 700 years ago. Although the work is only 63 centimeters high, its image is very vivid, which shows the sculptor's delicate observation of life.
