The world's largest statue will be unveiled in India in October.

India will unveil the world's largest statue next month depicting India's independent leader, Sardar Patel, the Guardian reported. However, the 182-meter statue may have been a world record holder for a short time, and a project to build a larger statue off the coast of Mumbai has begun. The construction of the two statues has caused a strong reaction among Hindu nationalists, spending nearly 700 million pounds in total.

The chief minister of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani, confirmed that the statue of Sadar Patel, about 125 miles (200 kilometers) southeast of Ahmedabad, India's main commercial city, will be unveiled on October 31. Rupani said the 29.8 billion rupees (about 314 million pounds) statue would be twice the size of the Statue of Liberty in New York.
